ALCOA AVENUE INDUSTRIAL
The design of this 50,000 square foot industrial/office building in the City of Vernon, abutting the southern edge of downtown Los Angeles, attempts to disrupt the typical convention of a boxy two-story corner lobby by proposing a sleeker scheme based around a central atrium capped by a sculptural skylight. A horizontal metal canopy provides shading along Alcoa Avenue and extends over the driveway to create a bigger sense of arrival for the property. In lieu of the typically inward facing offices, this layout makes it possible to create street facing corner offices that would also serve to generate a more visually interesting facade.
